Thrift Shopping Pays Off

It seems to be more of a pattern now than anything; the weekdays drag by until the weekend hits and my husband and I waste no time once it’s here. We’re either up early to beat the crowds at the springs or lately we’ve been putting some much needed, tender love into our little condo. We’re in the midst of what’s called, making our house a home. We noticed it this weekend as Kevin and I were sitting in the living room itching to get out of the house that perhaps the reason we’re not a fan of being home too much is due to our house being kind of, oh how do you say it, “blah?” We live in a small rectangular condo that fits two people comfortably but it just doesn’t have that feel-good, homey-feel that we want it to have. We want it to be an inviting place of pure relaxation and for it to give off this undeniable vibe of coziness.

This past weekend Kevin and I went to Sam’s Club (also apart of weekend activities). Every time we go to Sam’s we have to give Habitat for Humanity a look around as well. After all, the two stores are mushed right up against each other so why not? Usually we don’t find anything worth taking home, but nevertheless it’s fun to just look around and take a gander at all the stuff just like Grammie and I enjoy doing. Well, this time was different. Once we walked in, we instantly fell “in love” with an inviting, mocha colored couch sitting right in front of the automatic doors.

Like I said above, we’re in the midst of making our condo into more of a home, but we’re doing it the thrifty way. Naturally we’d love to buy new things but sometimes it’s worth a shot popping in thrift stores every now and then. Kevin and I consider this couch to be the best purchase either of us has made! When we saw it, we took a seat and literally sunk into it’s softness. I’m telling you, it’s like sitting on a cloud. Comfiest thing I have ever sat on.

The price tag said $160 which is still a great buy, but what sold us was the unique discount they were having. An older, hysterical gentleman explained how everything in the store was 50% off and how this couch had just arrived right before we showed up. Wow! We had hesitantly decided to walk away from the other people admiring the couch and head over to Sam’s so we could get what we needed. If by chance we came back and it was still there, then we were going to consider it “meant to be.” Sure enough, when we came back, there were still a handful of family’s trying out the couch making lovely comments about the new-like sofa. We asked if it was sold yet, and to our surprise it wasn’t, so of course we had to bring it home.

$80 (plus tax) later we were the owners of the most incredible buy we’ve every experienced. Although we’d love to just buy everything new and all at once, we’ve agreed to upgrade our little condo one one step at a time. Up next is a coffee table, an area rug, some paintings, pictures of us, and painting the kitchen red! What to do first? Hmmmmm…  We’ll figure it out, but until then we’ll continue to take a gander at the thrift stores just in case we come across another deal that we cannot pass up.

Kevin and I encourage thrift shopping not just for finding things you need at half the price, but because it can be fun! When we get the chance to go, we consider it a date. It may be silly, but if you find a good buy, it can make you feel successful and spending some time together is also a good thing. We even took a nap on our heavenly sofa last Sunday! I have a feeling we’ll be talking about our deal for time to come.

Have you ever had an amazing deal such as this one? What did you get? Who did you buy it from? Let me know down below!

  4. That couch is super cute! The color gives it a warm and homey feel. My mother and I didn’t have any money growing up, so she used to go thrift shopping for furniture. But the best find I ever got was a 75 dollar vintage chest of drawers from a couple that was moving and needed to get rid of everything. I love it!

    1. Thank you so much! It definitely brings our whole living room together. $75?! How awesome is that! I LOVE hearing about amazing finds like that. Keep it up 🙂
